Volkswagon make a hell of a lot of them, along with BMW and
Mercedes-Benz to  a certain degree.

Diesel engines in the USA have a bad reputation thanks to the efforts
of GM who made a spectacularly poor effort some years ago. You're not
helped but the atrociously low quality Derv that's sold over there.
It's very, very agricultural at best. I wouldn't use it to kill trees
to be honest, it's that bad.

Personally, I've had petrol cars for years - moved to a diesel last
year and I won't go back. Way more torque, and double the mpg. Win
Win.

For the record, Unity is fine here on my machines.
