<SIGH>
1 Imperial/British gallon is equal to 4.54609 litres.
1 U.S.of A. gallon is equal to 3.785411784 litres.
Therefore 1 Imperial/British gallon is equal to 1.2009499 of the U.S.of
A. gallon measured in litres.
Which simply means that the USA gallon is smaller than the
Imperial/British gallon.
Which means that you would need to use 1.2009499 litres of U.S.of A. of
whatever liquid to pour into a can to fill it up to be an
Imperial/British gallon.
And therefore it also means that the U.S.of A. gallon is 16.73259%
*smaller* in volume than the Imperial/British gallon.
Put another way, the contents of a can containing one U.S. of A. gallon
is actually containing only 0.8426742 of an Imperial/British gallon - or
only 3.785411784 litres.[*]
OK, but seeing as how "quarts" are so entrenched in this discussion,
let's look at "quarts"
Imperial/British quart is equal to 1.1365225 litres.
U.S. of A. 1 quart is equal to 0.946352946 litres.
And what does one conclude from this?
One concludes that the U.S. of A. quart is 16.73259% smaller in volume
than the Imperial/British quart.
[*] But to make matters even clearer, there are 2 measures of "gallons"
in the home of Disneyland and Glenn Beck: there is the "liquid
gallon"and the "dry gallon". Woohooo!
And Donald Trump is running for the US pres. at the next U.S. of A.
elections.
Normally reliable sources have informed me that Gomer Pyle is holding
off his announcement as a candidate for that office of pres. until next
week or so....maybe even until early next year...
