[Solved] Natty - Microphone Input has no sound

You didn't enable the proposed repos on the USB stick when you updated
did you?

Again, are the proposed repos enabled on the stick? If so that may
explain why it now works. What do you show for:
$ apt-cach policy pulseaudio
