11.04 freezes and I'm in recovery mode

So we can fairly say it's a graphic issue.

When you are in recovery mode, in failsafe, you can install the
nvidia-current driver. I've heard the 173 driver to be buggy. Hopefully it
will be solved.
Can't help you much there as I don't have an nVidia 6600gt myself.
