This is the point where I as a NOOB user since 8.04 have to jump in.
All the arguments given in favor of UNITY are saying that it is coming
from a small screen viewpoint, it is more Android like, etc.
I DON'T WANT MY FULL FUNCTION DESKTOP TO SIMULATE THE RESTRICTIONS AND
LACK OF FUNCTIONALITY I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ON A TABLET DEVICE OR
SMARTPHONE. [capitalization for purpose of emphasis not intended as
yelling]
If this is the perspective that the UNITY developers are coming from
then UNITY will be a darwinian dead end. I have read from the
beginning of my exposure to Ubuntu/Linux that "Linux isn't Windoze".
In this latest update I am presented with a lot of new 'bells and
whistles" and eye candy and no improvement in *real* day to day
functionality.
I am also reading about major problems of compatibility with certain
graphics cards.
Given these problems going forward I can't recommend anybody I know
switching to Ubuntu from any Micro$oft platform.
>From my point of view we the average user have been presented an early
beta product as a finished offering. This is no way to convince
people to switch or even try an alternative product.
For those who say this is OT and not a technical issue there are two
major issues here. 1. The hijacking of the stated principles of
Ubuntu for the "look what I can do" satisfaction of a small technical
group. 2. The obvious major problems with a widely used hardware set
(graphics cards)
3. A poorly tested and generally badly accepted product with little
internal documentation being introduced as a finished product.
