Unity ROCKS!!!

When I live booted (iso) to Ubuntu, (not Kubuntu), I get the familiar 
gnome2 type of screen, not the Unity that I wanted to try out. Most 
likely I am wrong and maybe I am not familiar enough to get to Unity. 
Just 1 simple question before I keep trying, do I need to install to 
hard drive to get to Unity?
