You are misguided. I could subscribe a bot to this list (or any other
mailman list) and gate the contents to a publicly accessible web page.

I too am on some privately archived lists. However once in a while
someone signs up to the list with a bot account which captures the
contents and puts it online. This is what I was referring to.
