Well it's not plain vanilla. Actually upgraded starting with 6.04 to
8.04 and now 10.04.
Besides standard uses (mail internet, etc.) it's mainly used for writing
music (in my VMware Windows XP) and as central server for 3other systems
and it is sitting behind a separate firewall (LEAF) that I recommend to
everyone who is seriously paranoid (I have it running memory only on an
old K6-box).

Well, I think so too but I think I will now eventually start with Ubuntu
Studio as it seems to be rather attractive for audio-applications, using
a specially tweaked Kernel.
By the way, removing menus.lst did the trick and now I'm running Linux
2.6.32-32-generic.
