Goh Lip & Tom,
@Tom, many thanks for the links. Apparently I have to remove menu.lst
and let grub-update make a new one.
@Go lip, Thanks for the suggestion. However, I've read so many disasters
happening with grub2 that I don't know if it is a good idea. For my
simple requirements up till now grub worked without problems. I assume
that the coming LTS (12.04?) will require grub2 but I have read so many
disastrous stories about unity that I seriously consider another
distribution. I started with simple Linux (1991 0,99) then via Red Hat
Suse and Fedora coming to Ubuntu. However, I currently have the
impression that ubuntu more and more goes the KISS way just like
Microsoft and Apple and hide the controls behind many layers to make it
more difficult for technical users to control their system. Have you
ever tried to fathom the intricacies of pulseaudio?? I rest my case.
It's Friday afternoon here and I have the perfect excuse to sit back
with a "borrel" :that's a typical Dutch drink called "oude genever"
and has nothing to do with gin a drink in my opinion only palatable with
lots of tonic. And to top it up I'll eat a "zoute haring", also a
typical Dutch treat not found anywhere else in the world.
Have a very nice weekend and thanks again.
Joep
