Either settle for the repo or install the perl dependencies would
be my suggestion. Personally, RT is too much of a pain as is without
the added faff of managing it's own Perl.

It's generally considered impolite to mess with the system Perl on a
Debianish system, since so much of the distro is written in perl. What
would be ideal is to install a Perl somewhere else, and pull down RT's
dependencies there. That way system updates wont suddenly break RT, and
RT updates wont break the system.

In general, though, no ill comes of mixing the two. The standard cpan
tool bundled with the perl binary is shockingly useless for installing
cpan packages, so use cpan-minus instead (it's in the repos). If you
can satisfy the perl dependencies from the repos (IIRC, most of them
can be) then that's always a better bet than cpan.

I'm sure someone on here will be able to help. If you've error messages
you'd like help resolving, we'll need to know what they say.
