How did you install the nvidia driver - via jockey (System|Additional
Drivers)? Which version?

This indicates that you did an in-place reinstall vs a clean install. Is
that correct? If so, you might go back & create another user before
update/upgrade & try from that new user profile. My guess is that you've
a user config issue.

I thought that you hadn't upgraded to 10.4 at this point? Can you clarify?
