On my Debian 64 bits (32 bits will save a little space), just dpkg and
its dependencies have an Installed-Size of 35224 KB. The dependencies
are fairly basic and you neither have a minimal gui, nor an editor. Thus I
think a functional 50MB system is not reachable with Debian.
