Yes, thanks. Though apt-cache policy does not return much for the fonts 
package.  Certainly nothing to do with the last changes.   Following 
your suggestion I looked again at synaptics and the package menu also 
includes a "download changelog" item.  Though I think Gary's method of 
going to /usr/share/docs/<packagename>/changelog.gz is as easy.

Yes, that's what I meant.  I'd posted from my gmail account and 
remembered the name wrong.
