Alienware Area 51m SD card slot.

I'm relearning Linux after a long sabbatical.  (I mostly used it in 
middle school in 98-99), and I'm hitting one wall that I think I just 
need to be pointed in a good direction to solve this.

My SD card slot does not auto-mount or recognise on my Area 51m laptop, 
and I don't know what device it should be showing up as.  Is there a 
command I can use to try and manually mount it?  If not, what drivers 
would I be looking for or setting up?
