If you mean by "ripping" doing a backup of a CD then I have only ever
used k3b.
I have recorded many of my vinyl records and edited them to get rid of
noise et al using Audacity and then burnt them to CD using k3b.

As I said, horses for courses, but Audacity has been very good to me :-)
(and k9copy and k3b, and xine and vlc).
