What's with the GNOME CD player?

Never heard of it :-) .

But now that I looked I see that it is not supported by Canonical.

I have never, ever, has any problems with xine. vlc, yes but I now have 
vlc under control (have to use w_scan to get the tv stations for both 
xine and vlc and then there is no need to look back :-) ).

But....horses for courses...
