Running Skype 2.1.0.81ubuntu5 (maverick) on AMD64 to talk to several
different users (on different OSs) back in the UK (I'm in Canada).  The
only change I had to make from the stock install was to launch Skype
with:
bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'
to avoid video problems with my webcam:  
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:08da Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messanger

Otherwise good audio & quite impressive full-screen video.
