Log-in screen gone mission in Ubuntu 11.04

Hi all,

On logging out from a session on Ubuntu 11.04 (gnome) I get a blank screen
instead of the log-in prompt. So, I'm not able to log-in again and end up
forcefully restarting the machine using power button. On regular booting
the log-in prompt is appearing properly. This issue seems to be happening
just after an upgrade.

Even ctrl+alt+F1 does not give any log-in prompt on CLI.

Anyone aware of the packages needed for displaying the log-in prompt? I
already tried re-installing gdm.
