You can find out which graphics card your machine has by running
"lspci" from the Terminal.  I have an IBM ThinkCentre M52 running
Ubuntu 10.04.  lspci shows:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

Compiz works fine on this machine, so based on the other comments in
this thread, Unity should too...
