UNE 10.10's Files & Folders on the bar

   I must be missing something but I H-A-T-E what the icon does. What am I missing? I've got an ntfs folder with all my "stuff" on it. I can't access this partition from "Files & Folders" so I've got "File Manager" on the bar. Talk to me, what am I missing/doing wrong? I should mention I'm dual booted with Windows XP which I use only when absolutely necessary.
