This thread I know is dealing with Maverick (10.10) but I am still using 
10.04.1 and gnash is also installed in Lucid (and I didn't install it) - 
but it is not running, it doesn't show up in the System Monitor.

A couple of question then come to mind: why is gnash, being at only the 
alpha stage, automatically installed, and why is it affecting Maverick 
but not Lucid?
