I don't see what's confusing about the official documentation on
help.ubuntu.com. The official way to upgrade a desktop install from
10.04 to 10.10 is to use the GUI: run "alt-f2", launch
"update-manager", click on "settings", change "lts releases only" to
"normal releases", click on "close", click on "check", click on
"upgrade".
