I may have found a way around the pulseaudio issue bit I have no clue what to put here. An example of what I need is here:

 dsd -i <device> -o <device>

What goes in <device> ? Since this is for the soundcard I/O I figure thats what it is looking for but I have no clue what goes there exactly. I do know the "default" is /dev/audio so is it:

 dsd -i </dev/snd> -o </dev/snd> since pulseaudio doesn't use /dev/audio?

This may or may not help but it's the only thing I haven't tried yet.
 Thanks in advance

John
