My decision to go with both the U727 and MiFi was purely based on
cross-platform compatibility. I had looked at PCMCIA and Express Card
adapters, but the only interfaces all of my computers had in common
were USB and wireless.
No need for FUD on the MiFi. You can secure it with the latest
encryption methods. Yes, out of the box it is not secured, and I think
that was the cause for concern when it first came out. Once you set it
up, however, it is just like any other 802.11 wireless access point.
On bandwidth usage, you can use your Verizon account page to monitor
usage, but it isn't realtime like the other solutions you mentioned.
If you are only using more than one device with the MiFi, you might
need to put something in front of it to capture the statistics all
together.
