Indeed. But for a flame war to begin there must be yet another
poster(s), either swallowing the perceived bait whole, or baiting
in return.

These actions (swallowing the bait/baiting) seem to be common on this
ML, unfortunately. A bit of civility and CoC-following would
help even more than expecting new posters to adhere to a series of
unpublished/uncommon-in-their-culture rules.
