How do I get my MX870 Canon Printer to work with ubuntu?

That's very surprising to me to hear. I have always found TurboPrint
to be (a) outstanding and (b) well-supported. Admittedly the first
time I installed it I had a few head-scratching moments but once
passed those it's been a no-brainer. Also my non-techie stepdad has
used it on Ubuntu since he dumped Windows (circa Hardy) and did the
install/upgrades himself. Sorry to hear it was a bust for you.
