I have an answer, but I am looking for a better answer:

Question: How can I md5sum a .iso CD in the CD drive?
(I think a Ubuntu CD can check itself but I did not want to restart my
system)

I could not CD5SUM the new CD in the CD drive.
I asked Brasero to copy the CD to FILE (so I could cd5sum from there).
I asked Brasero to make it a .iso file.
(do not leave the choice of file-type to Brasero)
 Brasero called it: brasero.iso
 Took about 5 minutes.

n0jn at bsw:~$ ls -l b*
-rw-r--r-- 1 n0jn n0jn 719499264 2010-05-01 08:25 brasero.iso
n0jn at bsw:~$ md5sum brasero.iso
a54366aa72d6b576ee8fc0215f8a13b9 brasero.iso
n0jn at bsw:~$

a54366aa72d6b576ee8fc0215f8a13b9 *ubuntu-10.04-alternate-amd64.iso
(Ubuntu-supplied md5 for my chosen .iso)
md5sum of copy is same as original. Copy is good !!

If there is a better way, I like to know.
