but I am guessing that someone had H/w or driver issues on Linux which was originally posted
but since then the conversation has deviated, then of-course its a guess & I may be wrong !! 

FYI, I work for Sun Microsystems which has a huge fan following for Apple and 
I have never encountered a thread in their mail-list with complaints about drivers/hardware
but the reason is obvious, the hardware is proprietary of Apple as well.
