Try doing an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. Chances are the library might get updated.
However, if you want a specific version, it is easier to download and compile from source.

hi *, i have a problem with a script php that generate a png image, i need update the version gd library on my php 5.
My script php run excelent in other server with this: GD bundled (2.0.28 compatible) -this is the info in phpinfo();-
How do i upgrade the gd library?
