Getting drivers to work is a moving target, you expect it to stop
moving? As for Linux having more drivers, sure it does but when it
comes to the average consumer, I think we should be only counting
drivers for things that you can buy new in most stores today. Having
drivers for 1980s hardware is cool and helps 3rd world countries and
stuff like that but does not count for much to most people in 1st
world countries unless they are very poor or just like old stuff.
If I were to make an OS rating system based on hardware. It would be
percentage of drivers that work without major problems that were made
in the last 2 years. Basically, what percentage of current hardware
works, plug and play. I fear that Linux would loose this contest.
hardware that is older that 2 years just does not count for that much
is most peoples eyes.

Wonderful Idea, right up there with jump over the moon and go and see
how much water is there. There are NO cameras that work, work being
can auto focus and transmit with HD in Skype or any other program for
that matter. I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 Web camera, 2mp
autofocus. Take a look at what it can do under MS Windows! Now show me
one that can do that in Linux. Really I would love to have such a
thing but I asked here before I got this one and it is the best for
Linux but it can't touch what it can do in MS. I truly wish this were
not so!
BTW sound still sucks under Linux. 8 out of 10 problems I have with
Kubuntu are related to Pulse Audio. Then try and do low latency,
NIGHTMARE, but at least possible these days! Linux has done a great
job at getting Wifi working well though. I still have a lot of
problems with lap top installs!
