trouble with installation of ubuntu

Which physical drive is your system boot drive? Which one does the
computer start up from?

If the IDE drive is the 1st drive, the SATA one is the 2nd, and you
installed on the SATA one, then the computer will never get as far as
checking that one and will just boot from the 1st.

The Ubuntu setup program should detect this and cope, but it is not
perfect - nothing is!
