About programming languaje for ubuntu(linux in general)

I am graduated in computer science engineer in 1998 until now I was working only for windows, for several programin languaje but in other ocasion I work in unix freebsd or linux for provide service for netwok, but never I developer any application for linux or ubuntu, by this reaason I would like to learn developer application for ubuntu, but I need for more easy. Do you undestad? But I have a good experience in other programming languaje but only for windows.

If you want to learn how to program, and you want to learn it on Ubuntu, 
then it appears that the "official" Ubuntu recommendation is Python.

Another nice language to learn is Java, and one you know Java, C# 
(sharp, not shart) will look very similar.

Of course every programming language can interact with the mysql DB. 
Because it is "just" SQL. You do know SQL, don't you? If not, please 
give that an effort too. Basic concepts like normalization should at 
least ring a bell if you want to be an efficient programmer.
