You don't say what you've tried so far. Do you have the little
pulse-audio speaker icon in your panel? If you click on it, does it
show the sound to be muted (as I believe is the default in new Ubuntu
installs)? I assume sound was okay in Windows.
On laptops I like to shrink Windows down to about a quarter of the disk
space available (or the least it will run in) and still have it if I
have any trouble with anything since the manufacturer will simply not
talk to you if you have a hardware problem and you say the forbidden
word: linux. On laptops, you're sure to have trouble at some point.
