xsane starts when printer turned on

The xsane maintainers/devs seem to be brain dead regarding this bug:

[xsane starts when printer plugged in]

It's an annoyance & bugs the crap out of me that whenever I turn on my
printer in Karmic xsane pops up. However it seems that the xsane
maintainer(s)/dev(s) haven't even looked at the bug since first filed by
Gabe Groelick on 2009-11-19.

Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve it?
