Not exactly clear on exactly what you are seeing...
If you are getting the grub menu your options will be the various kernel
versions - similar to this:

Note: your kernel versions & menu may vary as that is a screenshot from
8.04. 9.10 will have something similar:
Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-20-generic (on /dev/xyz)
Or are you seeing something different?
