How to manually install Ubuntu

I have managed to get past this hang now, but when I tried to format 
them in advance I would get a different error.  I can't recall the exact 
error message but it would say it was removing the other OS files and 
then say it couldn't. Exactly where or why it thought there were other 
OS files there I don't know.
