Thanks for the link. (Strangely, the text and the upgrade title do not
match. The upgrade text only refers to 9.10.)

My client did not want 8.04 and, anyway, I would not trust
do-release-upgrade (or update-manager if I had X installed), even to
go from 9.10 to 10.04 - let alone from 8.04 to 10.04.
