iwl3945 & kernel 2.6.33

I just did the exact same thing in a Debian environment and I had no problem.
I bet you may have to redo your kernel .config file (make xconfig or make
menuconfig) and make sure that kernel firmware loading is enabled. Also,
make sure that the iwl3945 driver is enabled as a module, NOT included in a
monolithic kernel. My kernel is entirely monolithic (even the mac80211
subsystem) with the one exception of the iwl3945 driver. The reason is that
the kernel needs to load the driver AFTER the filesystem is mounted so that
it can find /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode. Once those things are taken
care of in the kernel configuration you should have no problems loading the
firmware.
When that's done, you may help me to verify another problem, however. Upon
loading the newly compiled kernel, I found that my connection drops during
any large transfers. Simple web browsing, email reading, etc. work fine, but
as soon as I try to download anything larger than 5MB, the connection drops.
I had this problem with earlier kernels but was fixed in 2.6.32. It seems to
be back. Let me know how your installation works and what was your kernel
configuration (I'm trying to test different settings in the
networking/wireless menu to see if any combination will fix the problem).
