Before you put it in the scrap bin, go out and see if you can find a cd
drive cleaner CD. Maxell used to sell one & it contains a CD with a
small brush attached to the CD; you fire it up, run a few wav files &
the cd spins & the brush dusts off the laser lens. Alternately, you can
get a can of condensed air & spray into the drive. Sometimes when a
drive hasn't been used in a long time dust from the intake fans blow to
other parts of the system & the laser lenses get coated. Try cleaning first.
