Your problem only. It works fine for me and I'm not even Murrican and
don't have a "cent" in my currency.
But here is a cent: ¢. I just pressed AltGr-C, my first guess as to
the keystroke and I was right.

So you don't want help with it, you just decided to have a rant about
it in someone else's email thread? Because if you wanted help, you'd
have told us the make and model of hard drive, the motherboard it's
connected to, the type of cable you are using, the jumper settings on
the drive, what other IDE/PATA devices are sharing the channel, what
is on the drive, what other OSs work/do not work with it and the basic
standard troubleshooting information like that.

So you don't know the difference?
There are no master/slave settings in SATA. One drive, one cable, one
port; no mix and match.

Totally separate problem and again you have given us no
troubleshooting information at all.

This is rather egregious in a sig, and anyway, if you have OpenOffice
as you proudly proclaim in your sig, then you can read Word,
PowerPoint and come to that Excel documents - so what is the issue
here?
