How do I upgrade Ubuntu OS from the CD.

Ah yes, the OP doesn't actually say how old their 'old' ubuntu version is. I kinda implicitly assumed it was 9.10..., but that could well be wrong. 

I agree, if the jump in versions is large, the probability of problems is much much larger...
