Thanks, much less error prone for me than the terminal method.

Your are probably right.  I skimmed through the discussion and saw 
references to the location bar but never really saw where they decided 
to change the prefs. Your reference to Apple is right on.  As I was 
skimming through that wide ranging discussion I was wondering how 
anything got done.  Then I saw a reference that "upstream" (Jobs in 
Apple land) said the changes would not be made and the discussion sort 
of petered out.
