There are a number of bugs in launchpad which cite i915. Can you go to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu
and search on i915. There is a list of about 174 bugs that will be
shown. I suggest you look at the ones that explicitly mention i915 in
the description and see if any have a workaround mentioned. Also you can
add yourself to the most relevant bug by clicking on 'Does this bug
affect you'.
