Hello Dave,

I don't know the answer why it happened, but I would look with
gconf-editor how following key is set first
/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http
then, if previous settings are correct, I would check in
~/.local/share/applications:
"MimeType=" key in gedit.desktop (there may be multiple versions
of .desktop files for gedit) also what is in defaults.list in the same
dir.
