Grub disk: something automatic?

have you looked into the grub configuration script, update-grub ?
It will automagically generate a grub conf. Try backing up your grub
conf first though.
You can always boot from the livecd and chroot into your system and
reinstall grub that way. I'm not at my machine, so I can't provide
links but I will when I get home.
