He's not being a dick, he's just right.
No clicky is only a small part of the problem.  NoOp's pointing out that
all panel configs will be lost was the real stopper for me.  I have
configured my panels since Warty and hope to not lose those!

OK, maybe I'm backed up, but Elder Daughter, a GNUbie Extreme, has been
running Ubuntu since Dapper and also configured her panel(s)
extensively. She, perhaps, represents the 'typical' Ubuntu user better
than I and would also really /hate/ to lose her long-time configs.

I do believe your suggestion to rm /anything/ for a new user is
pretty excessive.  Moving/renaming is much safer, at least until one
gets one's feet wet in the Linux tide.
