To OP: Just remember not to upgrade to upgrade to new versions of ubuntu
over wifi connections. 

One thing you might want to consider for regular updates though, is
having them download in the background whenever you have internet, so
when they're done, you will simply be notified that they are there, and
you can then approve their installation.

To do this, go to "System > Administration > Software Sources | Updates
tab > Automatic Updates section" and select "Download all updates in the
background".
