Indeed, but these machines are so noisy (in particular the V20z/V40z)
that you don't WANT to have them with a VGA and keyboard/mouse in the
same room as you. :)

Nope. You are talking Debian Linux. I was talking Ubuntu Linux.

For Ubuntu Dapper (6.06.2 - ftp://ftp.daupheus.com/ubuntu/6.06.2/) , the
UltraSPARC port was done as a cooperation between Sun and Canonical, and
was specifically tuned for CMT.

Of course, now, Ubuntu doesn't offer support for SPARC anymore, so you
have to consider Debian Linux (or NetBSD, if you want something slimmer
and higher performance). Or you could, of course, get the just as open
source OpenSolaris for your SPARC machine.
