Audio Input setup? (How to?)

We do, but it's in Ubuntu, not Pidgin.

Linux has a tendency to configure things centrally, where you'll set
you mic properties once and whatever uses your mic will read those.
Windows, in contrast, tends to have some central config, but assume
each application will provide a more granular one. There's positives
and negatives to each approach, but it is handy to notice this trend
when looking for where to make configuration changes in Ubuntu.

You should find the mic settings somewhere under System->Preferences,
likely 'sound' or 'audio', but I don't have a Ubuntu box handy to check
against.
