no sound on HP pavillion laptop model dv6

Hi, I have no sound at all on a new installation onto an HP Pavillion dv6
laptop, all the desktop sound settings seem as they should be. Otherwise
everything else working fine.

I've been trying to follow some help pages: I did: lspci -v ,and the
things that look like sound cards that were listed were:

 (1) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset
High Definition Audio (rev 05)
 (2) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be2 (rev a1)

I went to the ALSA site and cant find these devices listed. Does this mean
Ubuntu currently has no support for these and so I have to do without
sound?
